Our senior team got off to a great start to the season away to Listowel Celtic B on Sunday 10th September. Listowel Celtic B were tough side in what turned out to be tougher weather. The home side were awarded a penalty in 12 mins and went up 1-0. We responded and were awarded a penalty of our own 5 mins later and Mikey Burke scored from the spot. We scored again shortly after the home side kicked off when our midfield duo of Graham O’Neill and John Dineen, who ran the show, recovered a loose ball and Aaron Ward tore away to leave Mikey Burke the simple task just to put the ball in the net and he obliged by scoring his second and with us in the ascendency he banged in his third goal soon after.
Second half saw us under a bit of pressure with hurricane Irma blowing in favour of Listowel we had to contend with some high balls into our penalty area but only for some fantastic acrobatics from Jack Rodgers in goal he kept the score at 3-1. Another penalty was awarded to Listowel they scored it to make it 3-2. With the conditions not helping matters we concede again to make that three all and momentum having swung back in the home sides favour. As Listowel made some key changes and prior to equalising, James and Paul made a couple of changes and he introduction of Nathan O’leary was instrumental, making instant impact. putting Mikey’s fourth and fifth goal on a plate for him. Having knocked the wind from the listowel sails Arron Ward rounded off the scoring with 6th.
