FAI Junior Cup 5th Round (last 64)
The senior team makes it to the last 32 of the FAI Junior Cup after a very hard win over Kingswood Fc from Dublin.
The game started at a great pace and within ten minutes we were ahead thanks to Mike Conway after a wonderful passing move. Kingswood pulled a goal back on the twenty-minute mark before David Clifford gave us the lead again in the 42nd minute to lead at half time.
The second half was non stop, Kingswood equalised within minutes off the restart . Then with twenty minutes remaining we were reduced to 10 men when Mark o Sullivan was shown his second yellow card . Things got worse as with 15 minutes left Kingswood took the lead . In the dying minutes Kingswood missed numerous chances to kill the game off and were then reduced to ten men also. Then in the 95th minute Shane Brosnan got on the end off a long free kick to head in the equalizer and take the game to xtra time.
Xtra time saw neither team really creating any clear chances and so to penalties it went . Kingswood went first and Jamie Kelly saved 0-0, Adrian Quirke then scored 1-0, Kingswood scored their second penalty despite Jamie getting a hand to it 1-1, David Clifford scored for park 2-1 , Jamie Kelly then saved Kingswood third while Antony Murphy missed Park’s third 2-1. Kingswood wood scored their fourth and Pa McCarty responded to make it 3-2 with one penalty left each. Jamie Kelly became the hero saving the final penalty to send us into the last 32.
Before the kick off their was a minutes silence for John Joe Naughton who passed away just a few days before this match. John Joe is the Father of current senior Manager Tommy . On the pitch were this years seniors who were joined by John Joe’s family and his St Brendans Park Fc team mates from the past.
