Today we traveled to Pat Kennedy park to face Listowel Celtic. The Sun was shinning and it was a perfect day for a game. We started the game brightly with John o Connor looking lively & we went close to opening the scoring when Jamie Fitzgerald latched on to a very dangerous corner from darragh Caplis but his header was just over the bar.not to long after that Leon o Shea hit a almost perfect free kick but his excellent effort was just wide of the top corner. Listowel caught us on the counter attack and went up 1 – nil. The boys just saw this as an opportunity to show how resilient they are and contuined to play the game the right way.
We didn’t take too long to get back in the game and when the excellent Jamie Fitzgerald broke down the right he played a lovely pass through to Martin Laucher and he had a quick look up to see John o Connor making up the ground to steal in at the back post to slot home the equalizer. A great goal. Within seconds of the restart we won the ball back and a quick 1-2 between John and Martin almost gave us the lead. Just before Adam walker made a great block to keep the score at 1-1 going into the break. As the second half began to take shape we continued to play some lovely 1 and 2 touch soccer.
The excellent Armin Heinrich almost put us in front with an powerful right foot drive but it was just wide. Listowel were by no means out of this game and could have went into the lead themselves when they had a free header sail over the bar after some slack marking from a corner. We took the lead after some great play when Armin won the ball back played a floated pass towards Gavin Slattery who flicked the ball into the oncoming Jamie who stroked the ball straight into the top corner. A goal worthy of winning a game. 2-1 park. A Listowel break in the dying seconds brought a match saving tackle from jack twamly to keep the score at 2-1 .
A great result played in the right way. Best on the day were Armin Heinrich Jack Twamly Jamie Fitzgerald John o Connor man of the match Sean McGrath .
