FAI Junior Cup 1st Round

We advance to the next round of the FAI junior cup thanks to a very hard fought victory tonight. This was a game at times looked like we would never score against a well drilled defensive team from Limerick.

;

Making 3 changes from the team that won last Sunday we started well and kept the possession for long periods of the first half. However with all this possession we were very wasteful in front of goals and failed to make the pressure count. Then just before half time Carrig stuck for a well worked goal which was finished from 20 yards out to give the visitors a surprised lead at half time.

;

The second half started like the first with us having all the ball and after 3 minutes of the half a great passing move between Mark o Sullivan and Fergal Maunsell saw Mark being taken down in the box for a clear cut penalty. David Magee stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 1-1. We then created numerous chances to take the lead but none were taken with Fergal Maunsell, Pa MaCarthy and Aaron Eager Moriarty coming closest. Then just before the end of normal time Tommy Moriarty had to make a great save when our defence was caught out for the first time in the half.

;

Extra time started with a bang when within two minutes Mark o Sullivan picked the ball up 30 yards from goal. His driving run saw him go past five defenders before crashing the ball to the roof of the net from 12 yards out. It was a goal worthy of winning any game. Carrig from here on resorted to hitting the long ball as they pushed men forward but with Con Barrett, David Magee and Martin Bowler in great form the equaliser was never going to come. Again the game could have been sealed in the remaining minutes but for some poor decision making and finishing.

;

We will now face Pallaskenry of the Desmond League away in round 2 on the weekend 13th/14th October.
