Greyhound Bar KO Cup 3rd Round
On a fantastic playing surface in perfect conditions we advanced to the quarter finals after a very good team performance. It only took 4 minutes for us to open the scoring when David Courtney flicked the ball into the top corner while facing the other direction.
It was 2-0 on 25 minutes when after a great run and cross by Fergal Maunsell saw the ball being turned into Celtic’s own net thanks to pressure from Pa McCarthy.
Stephen O’ Sullivan and Dan Robinson came close to making it 3 but then Celtic got one back just before half time when a header came back off the crossbar and hit Tommy Moriarty in the back and fell over the line to leave it 2-1 at the break.
The second half saw both teams playing at a very fast pace. Dan Robinson had the ball in the net on the hour mark but it was ruled out for offside. Then Tommy Moriarty made a fantastic one on one save to deny Celtic. Stephen O’ Sullivan header hit the crossbar with the Celtic keeper no-where after a great cross from Martin Bowler. With players getting tired due to the heat Park introduced David Rogers and Anthony Murphy. Park were finishing the stronger and scored twice in the last 10 minutes.
Firstly Anthony Murphy netted from close range after a fantastic run and pass by David Courtney. Then the iceing on the cake came when David Rogers scored a fantastic solo goal with 3 minutes left in the game.
A fantastic result but its only onto the next round we go . A home tie against local neighbours Shanakill FC awaits in what should be a great local derby occasion.
