We got another 3 points to-day away to Spa Road. On a heavy soft pitch with long grass our passing style of football had to be changed for a more physical hard-working display.
We started the game very comfortably and controlled the open moments of the match. However the game changed when Martin Bowler received a straight red for dissent towards the referee on the 20 minutes mark. This seemed to spur us on as within 7 minutes Mike Conway headed home from close range after good work from Con Barrett. This was Mike’s fifth game in a row scoring. Ten minutes later we were 2-0 up when Mark O’ Sullivan won the ball after putting great pressure on the Spa Road midfield, he then let fly with a fantastic strike from 25 yards which flew into the corner with the keeper given no chance.
The second half saw us take our foot off the gas a little as with ten men this was only a matter off keeping the ball and seeing out the game. Great work from Antony Murphy, Fiachra Dunne and Pa McCarthy always had us creating more chances. Jamie Kelly in goals had very little to do with the back four controlling things very easily. The game was killed off in the 90th minute when Pa McCarthy played in Jesse O’ Sullivan who was making his Senior A debut and he calmly slotted the ball home. Spa road did get a consolation goal in the 93rd minute but it was too little too late.
