Reserve Cup Final
Our B team failed tonight at the final hurdle in trying to capture the Reserve Cup Final. Credit must be given to the lads who were 2-0 with 25 minutes to go but battled on bravely and in the end can find themselves unlucky not to have brought the game to a replay.
The first half was a pretty dull affair with us falling behind after 20 minutes. Then just before half time Aidan o Sullivan hit the post with a great header with the Celtic keeper beaten after a great cross from Aaron Eager Moriarty.
We went 2-0 down early in the second half to a goal that seemed to everyone to be clearly off side but wasn’t flagged by the linesman. The management then changed things around and went all out attack bringing on Tommy Naughton and Darragh o Brien. For the remaining 25 minutes we were putting all the pressure on Celtic who couldn’t get hold off the ball. A glimmer off light came with 20 minutes left following a Tommy Naughton cross Mark o Sullivan rose highest to head to the top corner . Then Tommy Naughton saw two chances saved by the Celtic keeper. First his header was tip around the post as it looked destined for the corner, then his free kill was saved and spilled by the keeper by he reacted quickest to reclaim the ball from the oncoming Aidan o Sullivan. In the 90 minute Aidan o Sullivan once again saw his header beat the keeper only for it to hit the post for the second time and go wide. Celtic made it 3-1 in the 94 minutes when they hit us on the counter attack to seal the game.
Manager Jack Moriarty was thankful for the courage shown by everyone to fight back and thanked them for everything they had done all season long.
