Tommy Healy Cup 1st Round
The C team advance to the last 16 with a fantastic home win today. After a very hard first half playing into a very strong wind we went in 0-0 at half time thanks to some fantastic defending from Peter Williams and Ryan Downey. Alan o Shea and David Rogers had our best chances of the half but were unable to break the dead lock.
The second half saw a much better performance going forward. The opening goal came in the 55th minute when an Aaron Eager corner was headed goal-wards by Tommy Naughton and bundled over the line by Peter Williams.
It was 2-0 five minutes later when Tommy Naughton scored direct from a 25 yard free kick. The third wasn’t long coming and after a one-two between Peter Williams and Tommy Naughton saw Peter fire a shot from 30 yards that was too hot to handle and Alan o Shea was on hand to finish the rebound.
Aaron Eager then got on the score sheet twice in the last 10 minutes, firstly he showed great composure when he rounded the keeper to score his first and then from a very tight angle he fired home with the last kick off the game.
Other great performances came from David Rogers, Aidan o Sullivan and Daniel Shanahan. We now play Clanmaurice at home in the next round.
