St Brendan’s Park and Rhineanna Rovers were all square at one a piece at the interval of their FAI Junior Cup fourth round tie, but the Kerry side scored an astonishing six second half goals to book their place in the last 64.
The Park went closest early on when Mark O’ Sullivan saw his header cleared of the line by Dean Richter.
With just a minute remaining in the first half the home side took the lead with a goal well worth the wait. Fergal Maunsell and Graham O’Leary linked up well down the left flank, and after a quick exchange of passes the fullback found Maunsell and, without changing his stride, he struck with the inside of his right boot and sent the ball sailing into the far top corner.
However, the lead only lasted 30 seconds as the visitors managed an instant response. Paul Butler headed home a Danny Sweeney cross which caused havoc in the Park box.
The Park came out in the second half with a more determined mind set and it took just two minutes for them to regain the lead after Fergal Maunsel, who was now becoming a real handful picked out David Courtney at the back post where his perfectly timed volley found the roof of the net.
Two minutes later it was game over as Maunsell struck again with another cracker. This time he picked up the ball on the left wing just inside the half, glided passed three defenders and from just outside the box he curled the ball low into the far bottom corner.
On the hour mark Jesse O’Sullivan had the simplest of finishes thanks to the endeavour of Mike Conway and David Doyle.
It was the turn of Doyle next, and he dispatched a bullet header from a Graham O’Leary cross. Before the final whistle Conway and David Courtney found the net, to cap off an amazing performance and put the remaining clubs in the tournament on notice.
