A nine goal thriller !. It was a goal fest from the start. With us having the better of the opening exchanges, it was only going to be a matter of time before we scored. Liam threatened the Athletic goal early on with a cracker of a shot, but it was Athletic that got the opener in this nine goal game.

It didn’t take us long to reply with Eoin getting his first goal with a cross from Nathan. We looked comfortable at this point but we left Athletic in for another goal. Eoin was onhand again to bring us level midway into the first half.

At this point if we got to halftime at two all it would have been great. Athlethic struck again and it looked like we were heading to the break one down. Somehow we won ourselves a penalty just on the stroke of halftime. Colin steped up and calmly stroked the penalty straight down the middle of the goal !. Halftime 3-3.

After the restart it was the home team that struck again. At this point Mervyn was introduced for Conor who had worked hard all day for the team. Mervyn was not long on the pitch when he struck to make it 4-4. Athletic were now on the back foot and finding it hard to get out of their own half. Tide and Devon were brought in for Junior and Gavin to add fresh legs to the team. We had Athletic now pinned back on the edge of their own box. Andrew came on for Conor at this point. Andrew was not long on the pitch when he shot from the edge of the box only to hit the crossbar. It looked as if this was going to be the final chance of the day for us. Playing a true captains role, Colin found himself in Athletics box with the ball at his feet after some fine work on the left by Rhys and Liam. Colin took the chance and slid the ball past the Athletic keeper. 5-4.

The final whistle was a sweet sound to the Park team who had worked hard from the start and got the result they deserve.
