An early start for our Under 12’s on Saturday for a 10-30am kick off in Listowel. Conditions while cold were good with a dry morning and a slight breeze. The pitch as usual in Listowel was in excellent condition.
The Park started well and quickly took control of the game limiting the home side to an occasional counter attack. Park had come close to scoring on a couple of occasions with their neat passing style creating several chances. This opening period was rewarded when in the 14th minute Armin Heinrich’s incisive pass from midfield found John O’Connor who superbly found the top right hand corner of the net from 20 yards. 2 minutes later Armin almost scored himself with a terrific shot that glanced off the top of the crossbar. The Park ‘s back four were in fine form also with Cian Brosnan making some great defensive clearing headers and Jack Twamley, Sean Brosnan and Adam Walker ensuring keeper Sean Broderick had a relatively quiet first half.
HT Listowel Celtic 0, Park A 1.
The opening five minutes again had the Park on the front foot and coming close on a couple of occasions. However, as the half wore on Listowel started to get a grip in midfield and the Park defence was coming under some sustained pressure. Listowel were awarded a free kick mid way through the 2nd half just outside the box. A very well taken free kick took a deflection off the wall and found the back of the net. This spurred Celtic on even further and a few minutes later Listowel finished a loose ball clinically to the back of the Park net. From being in such a strong position the Park lads were now chasing the game. They pressed the home team with a succession of corners for the majority of the last ten minutes but to no avail with Celtic grabbing all three points.
