Listowel Celtic came to the Park on Saturday promising another tough game for our lads. The Park boys have been in outstanding form since their narrow loss in the National Cup and that continued here with a fabulous display of football.
All over the pitch Park were excellent, passing accurately and some of the link up play was wonderful.
It was from a great link up between Messiah Chirwa and Colin Doody that the first goal came after 15 minutes. Doody’s brilliant pass was taken on by Chirwa and his bullet of a shot nearly tore the net from the posts.
Park had some more chances but found themselves going in level at half time when a hopeful ball into the home square ended up being tapped into the back of the net by a lurking Listowel midfielder.
Park really raised their game in the second half although playing against a strong breeze. Cianan Cooney and Chirwa were causing havoc to the Listowel defence while Conor Kerins in midfield was having a stormer. At the back Seán Hill and Kieran O’Connor were rocks in the centre while full backs Ben Hanafin and Seàn O’Connell hardly put a foot wrong.
Three splendid goals from Cooney swung the game Parks way and they probably could have had more as Danny Jeffers had a fine header ruled out for some rough and tumble in the box.
Listowel’s consolation came a few minutes from time.
A fine performance from the Park lads that needs to be repeated all the way to the end of the season.
Thanks again to parents, family and friends for the great support.

On a footnote it was amazing to walk into Christy Leahy Park at 11.15am and see such a huge crowd of players and parents enjoying themselves and the sunshine. It’s worthwhile visiting on Saturday mornings just to witness all the superb voluntary work that’s being put in. Well done everyone. Park Academy every Saturday morning at 10am.
